    Set Review: 2192 Drilldozer
ReviewSunday, February 13th, 2011 at 10:40pm by Jason, BZPower Reporter
    [Source: Sisen]

The BZPower News team had a great time at Toy Fair, and they can't wait to get their stories up. But until then, here's a set review to tide you over. Today, Sisen was kind enough to review the new villain set 2192 Drilldozer. Is this a bad guy that you just have to get? Read on and find out!

    Presentation
From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set.

Code Red Alert: Another fiery minion of the evil Fire Lord has emerged! This time we encountered the drill wielding lackey with an arsenal of destruction.

    Subject Name: Drilldozer

As you can see Drilldozer dominates his box. When you have a face like his, it is hard to not be mistaken for a villain. We wonít worry about that bladed hand or over the shoulder shooter, but we are quite concerned about the drill he wields. It can only be described as a weapon of mass destruction when it rips through the ground.

The back of the box showcases Drilldozer in combat with Nex 2.0 against an industry background. They actually list Nex as a set number and not a name, which is a bit confusing when even the Heroes have their names listed on each other canisters. "Mom I need 2068 to fight Drilldozer just like the box shows." Granted most consumers will know that it is Nex on the back of the box already, I had to stop and think for a moment before I could recall the name.

Whoa look at that! Drilldozer has one, two, three arms?

    Building
Half the fun is had building the set. How fun is it to build and how easy or challenging is it?

    Drilldozer 03 Drilldozer 04 Drilldozer 05
    Drilldozer 06 Drilldozer 07 Drilldozer 08

When you start of building Drilldozer, he has the straightforward build the Heroes have to offer. There is a noticeable difference though! There is a nice and interesting use of various pieces to create the villainís armor. Besides the general build of a Hero he also shares some of the asymmetrical design but the aesthetics extend beyond the armor. Constructing Drilldozer is not very challenging, but it is fun and intriguing to build off the same system used for Heroes 2.0.

    Set Design
Now that the set is complete, we can critique how it looks from every angle. New or interesting pieces can also be examined here.

Drilldozer contains just around sixty pieces. Some of them are old, some of them are new, some are borrowed, but none are blue. He shares the combined color scheme of the Fire Lord with red, silver, dark metal gray, and black color scheme.

    Drilldozer 09 Drilldozer 10

You get six silver pieces in total. The silver version of the double sided Fire Lord Drilldozer mask, an extra-large silver armor unit, and three medium armor units. The set also contains a silver version of the red chest accent piece used by the Fire Lord and Drilldozer.

    Drilldozer 11

There are precisely four pearl dark gray pieces in this set. He has two of the thornax launcher pieces and one of the Fire Lord shoulder armor jet pack things. The main piece of attraction is the pearl dark gray claw version of Fire Lordís red antlers.

The red pieces in the set arenít really worth mentioning as weíve seen them already. You get five red ball joint and ball socket pieces, and two ball joint on axle and ball socket with pin hole pieces. You also get one of those red armor add-on pieces the Fire Lord uses, just like the silver one mentioned above, a flame piece, a red hose, and a red marbled orange zamor. There are also eight of those fin blades weíre seeing a lot of in the Hero Factory line now.

    Drilldozer 12 Drilldozer 13 Drilldozer 14 Drilldozer 15

The piŤce de rťsistance is all of the black pieces in the set. You get a whopping twenty-five black pieces in this set. Some of them are familiar old pieces, re-colors of new pieces or both! You get the basic ball and socket pieces to make up the arms and legs of the set, along with the connector pieces for the feet and hand sections. The best part about Drilldozer has to be his use of black Bohrok teeth. They look so much better than his evil leaderís ginormous antlers and they make a lovely black Bohrok. There are also two new black pieces based off perpendicular four pin connectors we received in sets like Axalara T-9, Fire Lord, and forgive me for mentioning the Toa Mistika. The pieces were in a lot of sets, but these newfangled ones are very special indeed! Instead of four perpendicular pins, there are two pins and two ball joints. One can only imagine what can be done with such a piece; it is surprising it was not made before now! Besides those you get two medium sized armor units, one is solid black and the other has a pattern on it. There are also two of the larger armor units used for shoulder/arm armor in sets like Breez and Evo. There is also the new upper torso armor which is an interesting piece to say the least. It is a nice take on construction a new armor different from the Heroes.

Drilldozer is a nice set. He has his own share of problems but the pieces he contains are worth it. He started off with a pretty simple structure but the inclusion of an arm support structure from his back to drilling arm is a bit weird. He isnít some giant titan that needs extra support and can heft his drill around just fine. If anything the support arm restricts him a bit. Iím guessing there is some story behind his left arm because he just has a blade there. Perhaps it is supposed to be a claw or something heís holding in a figurative hand? Who knows? Heís surely not lacking anywhere in particular but he could have been improved slightly. Okay so maybe I lied a little bit there. His head is a bit screwy. It is almost like he wore neck wrings to stretch out his neck or something. His head is fine once you hunch it down and over like it is supposed to be, although that really was not obvious from the instructions.

    Playability
The other half of the fun is in playing with the set. How well does the set function and is it enjoyable to play with?

Never fear! Our friendly neighborhood cameraman is here?! Once again our ill-fated camera man has got caught up in a fight. Things start off good with the two staring each other down. Our cameraman held his ground good blocking the attacks of Drilldozer. All of a sudden he threw down his arms and reared back away from the opponent. Apparently Drilldozers three appendages against two frightened him. Drilldozer wins! Wait or is that the Fire Lord?

    Final Thoughts
Once it's all said and done, how does the set stack up? Should I get it?

    Pros
    What's to like?

    • Yay more new pieces?!
    • Lots of black pieces!
    • Less color clutter
    • Old and new piece integration
    • Bohrok <3

    Cons
    What's not to like?

    • Questionable arm back appendages
    • A LOT of color mixture but not as bad as the Fire Lord
    • Awkward neck and double sided head

    Drilldozer 25

    Drilldozer wants you!

    (To buy him.)

Personally I didnít play with Drilldozer much but Iím sure all the kiddies out there will have loads of fun with the Fire Lords number one minion. Drilldozer is a pretty great set whether you just want him or his pieces. When I built Drilldozer I could not help but think about what type of Hero he would make or could have been. He still looks a bit evil in this Hero-mod but he is a pretty nifty sight. Too bad I didnít have Dunkan Bulk helmet to throw on him though.
