BrickFair New England - A Belated Wrapup
Hot Bionicle NewsTuesday, July 23rd, 2013 at 9:50pm by Andrew, BZPower News Manager

BrickFair Virginia is almost here, so what better time to report on the previous BrickFair, which took place in New England. Better late than never, I always say. Anyway, Manchester, New Hampshire was home to the first major AFOL convention in the Northeast, and the fans turned out a-plenty. There was a great turnout, especially among Bionicle fans, which was one of the best-represented themes there. The public presence wasn't as good as we would have hoped, but everyone still had a lot of fun. To get an idea of what was on display - read on!

    Bionicle
Like I said, there was a huge Bionicle display, largely thanks to you - BZPower's Members. I had a whole duffel bag of your MOCs that I brought up, and others like Bfahome, Chro, Steve the Squid, and Nealybealy brought more than their fair share of creations too. I was very impressed with the display and we had to cram it all in to a limited amount of space. It got a lot of looks and it was very clear that Bionicle is not dead.

    Mindstorms & Technic
There was a good-sized display of Mindstorms and Technic creations, mainly courtesy of the Hassenplug family. A couple of Donkey Kong recreations were my personal highlights.

    Sci-Fi, Movie, and TV
There was a wide variety here, from superheroes to Star Wars and The Lord of the Ring to Halo. Definitely plenty of interesting dioramas and creations.

    Military
The military section was much smaller than the huge layouts we're used to seeing in Virginia, but there was still plenty of quality stuff, from historic to futuristic.

    Castle
You can't go wrong with Smaug or a large wooden rabbit. You just can't. There were other cool castle MOCs too, including the ever-present Mr. Red's viking creations.

    Monorail
A new world record for longest LEGO monorail was set, blowing away the previous one. I have no idea what either number was though, so you'll have to take my word on it. Also, I don't recommend you stand under the bridge.

    Great Ball Contraption
By virtue of the GBC layout using the monorail to ferry soccer balls around, I believe this was the longest GBC layout ever. There were some really impressive and cool ways to move the orbs from Point A to Point B.

    NELUG
Seeing as how this was BrickFair New England, it only made sense that the New England LEGO Users Group would be there. They had a great layout that effectively combined a lot of themes, including space, town, castle, trains, steampunk, and more.

    Mosaic
There weren't a huge amount of mosaics there, but a few of them were quite impressive.

    Mixed
And then there was everything else. Quite a variety, including some space, town, sculpture, and who knows what else. Oh yeah, there was a giant crane, of course. Basically, it all goes to show that you can build anything out of LEGO!
