    Toy Fair 2014: Star Wars
Hot Bionicle NewsThursday, February 20th, 2014 at 7:19pm by Andrew, BZPower News Manager

LEGO and Star Wars are celebrating fifteen years of partnership this year, and they have a great lineup of sets to commemorate the anniversary. From the classic trilogy to the new Rebels TV show, there's a little bit of everything. LEGO and Disney just want to steal more of my money, so if you don't want to spend some of your own, don't read on! (But seriously, you should go check out the sets.)

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 01

    Star Wars Rebels Sets

    75048 Phantom

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 35 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 37 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 36

    234 pieces. Age 7+.
    $24.99 (USD) $29.99 (CAD)
    Available in August

This is one of two sets revealed from the upcoming TV show, Star Wars Rebels. It looks a little underwhelming for a $25 set, but I like how the design definitely hearkens back to some of the classic ships like the Y-Wing. The minifigs are great, as we've come to expect from Star Wars, and I'm a fan of the helmet that appears to be based on concept art from Ralph McQuarrie.

    75053 The Ghost

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 63 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 26 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 27 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 21 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 22 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 23 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 24 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 25

    929 pieces. Age 9+.
    $89.99 (USD) $109.99 (CAD)
    Available in August

The Ghost is the larger of the two Rebels sets, and is pretty awesome. It definitely has some Corellian design influences and is likely to be the Rebels version of the Millenium Falcon. There's lots of play features too, from a cockpit that pops out, to storage hatches, to removable escape pods, to a turret that fits a gunner. As far as the minifigs go, we get a cool Twi'lek, an alien species I'm not familiar with, Kanan Jarrus, and a classic Stormtrooper. On top of all that, if you have the Phantom and the Ghost, they combine! That definitely made the Phantom cooler to me, and they're totally better together.

Additionally, LEGO sent along some more information about Rebels:

LEGO Star Wars Rebels Building Sets Launch August 1
LEGO Star Wars The Ghost building set is based off of the Rebel heroes' starship, The Ghost, which has dual cockpits, a 360-degree rotating turret, two spring-loaded shooters and ejecting escape pods. The building set features 929 pieces and several new LEGO minifigures with assorted tools including Kanan Jarrus, Hera Syndulla, Zeb and a Stormtrooper. Designed for ages 9 and up, the kit will retail for $89.99.

The second building set, LEGO Star Wars Phantom, is an attack shuttle that works in conjunction with The Ghost set. The two models can be combined and the Phantom model features 234 pieces and includes folding wings, tools and a detachable cockpit with cargo hold where pilot Ezra Bridger can store his cadet helmet and blaster. Ezra Bridger and his grumpy Droid companion, Chopper, are also brought to LEGO minifigure form. The set is designed for ages 7 and up and will retail for $24.99.

    Summer Sets

    75049 Snowspeeder

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 44 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 45 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 62 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 43

    279 pieces. Age 7+.
    $29.99 (USD) $39.99 (CAD)
    Available in August

LEGO has released a lot of snowspeeders over the years, and this one is definitely up there among the best. I do like how they use the new gun piece for the tow cable launcher. The colors are perfect and it has all the right details, like the brake flaps and shape of the laser cannons. We get yet another pilot Luke and Dak, who has possibly appeared the most out of all the secondary characters in LEGO sets over the years. There's a Snowtrooper too with an E-web blaster, and all three figs have great front and back printing.

    75050 B-Wing

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 40 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 41 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 42

    448 pieces. Age 8+.
    $49.99 (USD) $59.99 (CAD)
    Available in August

Again, there have been plenty of B-Wings over the years, but the designers keep refining the shape and quality of the ship. It's got all the features you would expect - folding wings and a rotating cockpit. The minifigs are going to be the main attraction of this set I think, with two incredible pilot minifigs and a Rebel leader (I'm sure he has a name, every character in Star Wars does). Just look at those torso prints!

    75051 Jedi Scout Fighter

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 38 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 39

    490 pieces. Age 8+.
    $59.99 (USD) $74.99 (CAD)
    Available in August

Finally, a ship we haven't seen before! The Jedi Scout Fighter is apparently from The Yoda Chronicles and it's a pretty sick looking ship. I really like the shape and the hard angles it presents. The minifigs are solid too, although I don't feel that they're anything too special, unless you need to collect every astromech.

    75052 Mos Eisley Cantina

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 28 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 31 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 30 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 29 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 32 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 33 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 34

    616 pieces. Age 8+.
    $69.99 (USD) $89.99 (CAD)
    Available in August

I really like this set, a lot. The landspeeder model actually looks similar to some we've seen before, but with an updated and more accurate color palette. While we don't get a full cantina, I think it captures the feel very well. It might seem a little sparse, like there's no bartender, but we do get Figrin D'an and two of the Modal Nodes! That alone makes it worth a purchase in my book, but we also get Luke, Obi-Wan, Han, Greedo, and a Sandtrooper on a Dewback. What the set may lack in structures it makes up for in figures!

    75054 AT-AT

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 14 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 15 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 16 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 17 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 18 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 19 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 20

    1,137 pieces. Age 9+.
    $109.99 (USD) $129.99 (CAD)
    Available in August

You can't have a snowspeeder without an AT-AT! This might be the smallest minifig scale AT-AT we've seen, but it certainly captures the walker well. It also comes with the AT-AT pilot, General Veers, two Snowtroopers, and a Snowtrooper commander. Perhaps oddly, it's lacking a speederbike, which has often been seen in AT-ATs in the past. Still though, it's a mean, grey, Rebel-stomping machine!

    75055 Imperial Star Destroyer

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 10 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 09 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 13 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 11 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 12

    1,359 pieces. Age 9+.
    $129.99 (USD) $149.99 (CAD)
    Available in August

Here's the largest Star Wars model we're getting this year - a huge Imperial Star Destroyer. It easily comes apart giving you access to the interior, and even features a carry handle for easy transportation. There's some cool play featurs like laser turrets that turn in sync. The minifigures are solid, and the real standout is the holographic emperor - it's about time! A great looking set for the hardcore Star Wars fans.

75056 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 02 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 03 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 04 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 05 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 06 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 07 Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 08

    274 pieces. Age 6+.
    $39.99 (USD) $49.99 (CAD)
    Available in September

The advent calendar makes a return this year, and looks to have some cool mini-models and minifigs. The winners are obviously the Santa Vader (Darth Claus? Vader Claus?) and the R2-Tree2. I think it may be worth the $40 for those two figs alone...

    Winter Sets

    75028 Clone Turbo Tank

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 46

    96 pieces. Age 6+.
    $9.99 (USD) $12.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

Clone Trooper - you're supposed to ride in the tank, not on it! So silly. This model certainly captures the look of the tank well.

    75029 AAT

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 47

    95 pieces. Age 6+.
    $9.99 (USD) $12.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

It's a little AAT with a pilot battle droid. Not being the biggest fan of Episode I, this set doesn't do much for me, but it looks pretty cool.

    75030 Millennium Falcon

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 48

    94 pieces. Age 6+.
    $9.99 (USD) $12.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

Now this is more like it - original trilogy all the way! The mini-Falcon is adorable, but my one complaint is the inclusion of flick-fires instead of a real turret.

    75031 TIE Interceptor

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 49

    92 pieces. Age 6+.
    $9.99 (USD) $12.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

These just keep getting cuter and cuter. While I would have preferred a classic TIE Fighter to go with the X-Wing below, this does the job well and will probably end up in my shopping cart.

    75032 X-Wing Fighter

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 50

    97 pieces. Age 6+.
    $9.99 (USD) $12.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

I give up, just take my money LEGO. How can you resist a perfect little X-Wing?

    75033 Star Destroyer

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 51

    97 pieces. Age 6+.
    $9.99 (USD) $12.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

Not a cute as the previous two, but still a nice little model. The flick-fires look tacked-on though, which is unfortunate and detracts a bit from the set.

    75034 Death Star Troopers

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 52

    100 pieces. Age 6+.
    $12.99 (USD) $15.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

It's a battle pack - it'll give you some Imperial Guards and Death Star Troopers. Yay.

    75035 Kashyyyk Troopers

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 53

    99 pieces. Age 6+.
    $12.99 (USD) $15.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

Clone Troopers in camouflage - cool. I guess if you want an army of these guys you're set.

    75036 Utapau Troopers

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 54

    83 pieces. Age 6+.
    $12.99 (USD) $15.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

The droid in this battle pack actually doesn't look too bad.

    75037 Battle on Saleucami

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 55

    178 pieces. Age 7+.
    $14.99 (USD) $17.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

For a battle pack, this one doesn't look half bad. You get some more battle droids, a STAP, and a cool clone speeder.

    75038 Jedi Interceptor

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 56

    223 pieces. Age 7+.
    $24.99 (USD) $29.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

How many versions of this ship have we seen now? It looks pretty good, maybe we'll finally have a definitive version here.

    75039 V-Wing Starfighter

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 57

    201 pieces. Age 7+.
    $24.99 (USD) $29.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

While we haven't seen this ship as much as the Jedi starfighter, it still seems like we just had one not too long ago. Despite that, it's a good-looking model for the most part.

    75040 General Grievous' Wheel Bike

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 58

    261 pieces. Age 7+.
    $24.99 (USD) $29.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

Before people complain about me bashing prequel sets - I do like this one. I think it's a great adaptation of Grievous' vehicle and I like the use of the trans-clear wheel hub as the base.

    75041 Vulture Droid

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 59

    205 pieces. Age 7+.
    $24.99 (USD) $29.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

This actually looks like a pretty good design and a cool ship - much better than the one I got in 1999. The transformation is pretty smooth and you get a little buzzsaw droid too.

    75042 Droid Gunship

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 60

    439 pieces. Age 8+.
    $49.99 ( USD)
    $59.99 ( CAD)
    Available in March

This must be from one of the TV shows, because I didn't know what it was when the first model was released and I still don't. I'm not a huge fan of the design, but it does look better than the first one!

    75043 AT-AP

Toy Fair 2014 Star Wars 61

    717 pieces. Age 8+.
    $59.99 (USD) $74.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

Looks like the AT-AT isn't the only walker we get this year. I suppose this set looks alright but doesn't seem very compelling to me, unfortunately.

It shouldn't be surprising that LEGO Star Wars is still going strong fifteen years later after looking at this year's sets. Don't forget to check out the rest of our Toy Fair 2013 coverage and to vote for the themes you want to see next, right here on BZPower!
