    Toy Fair 2014: DC Superheroes
Hot Bionicle NewsThursday, February 20th, 2014 at 9:26pm by Andrew, BZPower News Manager

In 2014, LEGO is continuing their partnership with DC Comics and is releasing some new Batman-centric sets. While I hope they continue to branch out in the future, what they've come up with is pretty cool, and may see a surge in sales after Batman being a main character in The LEGO Movie. So let's see what they showed off at Toy Fair!

Toy Fair 2014 DC Superheroes 01

76010 Batman: The Penguin Face Off

Toy Fair 2014 DC Superheroes 02

    136 pieces. Age 5+.
    $12.99 (USD) $15.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

While this is a fairly small and simple set, I love the concept and execution. You get an aqua-suit Batman, the Penguin in a rubber-duck boat, and radio-controlled penguins armed with dynamite! So campy and so wonderful.

    76011 Batman: Man-Bat Attack

Toy Fair 2014 DC Superheroes 03

    184 pieces. Age 6+.
    $19.99 (USD) $24.99 (CAD)
    Available in January

I know Man-Bat is powerful and all, but I think he's going to be hard-pressed to stand up against the Bat-copter and Nightwing on a jetpack. Balance aside, the chopper is a nice design and certainly does the trick at this price point.

    76012 Batman: The Riddler Chase

Toy Fair 2014 DC Superheroes 04

    304 pieces. Age 6+.
    $29.99 (USD) $39.99 (CAD)
    Available in January

Finally! Another DC superhero. Batman is assisted here by the Flash as they try to take down the Riddler. The Batmobile is a nice design, and even though I've grown accustomed to the Tumbler, I like the callback to earlier iterations. The Riddler's dragster is simple, and I'm sure it's no match for the Flash, but it fleshes out the set and gives it some balance.

76013 Batman: The Joker Steam Roller

Toy Fair 2014 DC Superheroes 05 Toy Fair 2014 DC Superheroes 07 Toy Fair 2014 DC Superheroes 06

    486 pieces. Age 7+.
    $49.99 (USD) $59.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

The final DC Comics set features Batman's arch-nemesis, The Joker, along with Batgirl and Robin. I'm not a fan of the Bat-plane design and the way the wings are sloped, or the Technic beams on the front. Even if the enable a play feature it just looks unpolished to me. The steam roller, on the other hand, is fantastic, with bright colors, a solid look, and that evil grin on the front. I think it makes up for most of the plane's shortcomings.

It's interesting to see so few sets from the DC license this year, but I guess with no major movies coming out it makes some sense. Still though, there's a good variety and some fun sets to choose from if you're a fan of the Dark Knight. Anyway, this is just one small section of our Toy Fair 2014 coverage, and we want you to tell us what you want to see next. Keep checking back on BZPower to see what you choose!
