    Toy Fair 2017: Minecraft
Hot Bionicle NewsMonday, February 27th, 2017 at 3:08pm by Andrew, BZPower News Manager

Today we look at the last major playtheme from LEGO that was on display at Toy Fair 2017. The game is still hugely popular, and from what I've heard the LEGO Minecraft sets are still top sellers. Clearly they're doing well enough to justify a batch of new sets this year, so let's have a look to see what's being offered.

    Toy Fair 2017 Minecraft 01

    21129 The Mushroom Island

    Toy Fair 2017 Minecraft 08

    247 pieces. Age 8+
    $19.99 (USD) $24.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

If you've read my reviews of LEGO Minecraft sets in the past I haven't been a big fan. Trying to stay unbiased, this set does look to have some nice figures and creatures, although none of them appear to be new.

    21130 The Nether Railway

    Toy Fair 2017 Minecraft 09

    387 pieces. Age 8+
    $29.99 (USD) $39.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

This is probably my favorite Minecraft set for this year because of the cool railway. It makes great use of 2x2 and 4x4 'macaroni tiles' for the track that look awesome. The rest of the set looks like more of what we've gotten in the past though.

    21131 The Ice Spikes

    Toy Fair 2017 Minecraft 07

    454 pieces. Age 8+
    $39.99 (USD) $49.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

This set seems to be a good source of medium blue bricks, which could be useful for a lot of builders.

    21132 The Jungle Temple

    Toy Fair 2017 Minecraft 06

    598 pieces. Age 8+
    $49.99 (USD) $64.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

The temple actually looks like one of the more interesting builds in this year's sets. There's a good bit of SNOT to create the vines growing over the structure and a bunch of asymmetry in the construction.

    21133 The Witch Hunt

    Toy Fair 2017 Minecraft 10

    502 pieces. Age 8+
    $59.99 (USD) $74.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

I think the witch figure may be new for this year, but aside from that nothing really jumps out at me here.

    21135 The Crafting Box 2.0

    Toy Fair 2017 Minecraft 03

    717 pieces. Age 8+
    $59.99 (USD) $74.99 (CAD)
    Available in August

While it does look updated from the first iteration of the Crafting Box, this version doesn't look to bring much more to the table.

    21134 The Waterfall Base

    Toy Fair 2017 Minecraft 02

    729 pieces. Age 8+
    $69.99 (USD) $89.99 (CAD)
    Available in March

This set seems pretty interesting since you get to build your base under a waterfall and have it hinge open to access. The interior looks like it has a good bit of detailing.

    21136 The Ocean Monument

Toy Fair 2017 Minecraft 04 Toy Fair 2017 Minecraft 05

    1122 pieces. Age 8+
    $109.99 (USD) $139.99 (CAD)
    Available in August

The construction of this set doesn't look very exciting but it appears to be a great source of sand green bricks and earth green plates. The sea creatures do offer something new and different for the theme though.

Minecraft still isn't my thing, but I can say that it looks like a couple of the sets are offering something new this year, with certain colors being available in a big enough quantity to possibly entice non-Minecraft fans. If you're interested in other themes besides Minecraft, make sure you check out the rest of our Toy Fair 2017 coverage and keep checking back on BZPower for more coming soon!
