As promised in yesterday's Weekly Update, I bring you BZPower's next and latest review. Reference Keeper Great Being #1 brings us another vehicle review, this time presenting Rockoh T3. How have Pohatu and his new ride turned out? You'll have to read on to find out!
From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set.
The Rockoh T3, awsome vehicle of the Codrex that can trap enemies in a field of energy! The CGI image on the front of the box conveys this quite well. The background is unique for the vehicles as it shows both the stalactites on the ceiling of Karda Nui and the Swampy bottom. As for the back of the box it's the usual. a couple of images of the T3 and Pohatu, and their functions. Also there are the T6 and T9 on the back.
Now when I dumped out the contents of the box on the floor I was suprised to see not 1, not 2 not 3 not 4 but 5 packets and 3 instruction booklets.
In case you want to look at the pieces. I got so caught up in the making of the set I didn't take pictures of all the new pieces.
Half the fun is had building the set. How fun is it to build and how easy or challenging is it?
And my gosh how much fun it was building the T3. This set is probably the most interesting build I have in my collection, which is not that small. It wasn't possible to guess where any of the pieces went until the last moment. There were surprises at every turn. It was so much fun that stopping and taking pictures was getting really annoying but I got a whole assortment for you guys.
This turned out to be the frame of the set and it was different from any other frames so far.
This was the mechanism used in the upwards and downwards motions of the wing things.
Continuing on in the build.
This is how the wings work. The rod at the back is twisted and the wings go either up or down.
Finishing up the build.
Now that the set is complete, we can critique how it looks from every angle. New or interesting pieces can also be examined here.
Pohatu is your average Toa from the last couple of years except for the fact that he has one new piece and one piece in a new colour.
On the other hand you have this whole arsenal of weapons used in the set. It ranges from the Bohrok shields to the Mistika/Phantoka stuff.
These are some interesting pieces I found in the build that including the system ones.
Overall I'd say the Rockoh is a nice looking set but that Pohatu clashes with it too much so I made the apropriate changes as seen in the next section.
The other half of the fun is in playing with the set. How well does the set function and is it enjoyable to play with?
This set is just so much fun to play with. It looks good, it has cool functions (Gears!), it shoots and it's just plain awsome.
Pohatu is just about the same size as Lewa but is a different shape. As seen above the wings can go up and down using gears depending on what you want the Rockoh to do. Also seen above is the awsome back end of the Rockoh with the big exaust and wings.
The Rockoh looks awsome with the headlights in the front. On top we see a blue pin which keeps the zamors/midaks from falling out while flying upside down or in other ariel manouvers.
The riders spot on the Rockoh is very roomy and seems like it wouldn't be to uncomfortable to sit in. Also in the end I made the switch and put Lewa in to ride the T3. It just seemed better from my point of view.
Once it's all said and done, how does the set stack up? Should I get it?
What's to like?
- Cool new build!
- Awsome new pieces/new colours!
- You get Pohatu if you dont have him (like me)!
- Fun to play with!
- Functions (like Gears)!
What's not to like?
- For righties?
Note for those Canadians out there Wal*Mart is selling these for 45 CAD which is 12 CAD less than TRU. As for the righty part I mean the zamors shooting function. This can easily be remedied by changing something in the build, it can be done quite simply by switching the technic piece to the right instead of the left.
Now once all is said and done I recommend this set. Anybody who has the money and is willing to spend it should get this over any of the other sets (except maybe T6 and T9). It is just so much fun to play with, you get a Toa with it and it's got a lot of pieces for all those MOCists out there, I'm sure some would be useful.
Oh and if you have Lewa please dont hesitate to put him on. It just looks so much better than Pohatu :-P
And there you have it, Rockoh T3 in its entirety. Hopefully you enjoyed the review and found it informative and helpful, and if so, be sure to thank Great Being #1. As usual, keep checking back for the latest Bionicle news and reviews!
