Toy Fair 2013: Legends of Chima

It's time for our next batch of Toy Fair 2013 coverage. Chima won out in our third round of voting, so here we go. It's the only theme outside of Hero Factory that has constraction sets, which makes it pretty unique. Read on to see what this year's big line is all about!
Chima Constraction Sets
Just a note - these sets are $14.99 each.
I think this is the first time we've seen a fig of this size with two of those pieces for hands with fingers. I have to say it looks kind of awkward when he's holding his sword and shield - those hands were just not made for that. Otherwise he's a nice source of gold pieces, with a couple dark red. Oh and his back is covered!
Eris has some great part selection - I believe both the axe and wing pieces are new. There's also what appears to be a new piece connecting the wings, although you can't really see it in the picture I took. The overall color scheme is pretty nice too, with some nice transparent blue to really catch the eye along with the gold and white.
I guess I have to take back my earlier comment about Laval's hands, since Gorzan has them too. They work much better here though, since he's a gorilla, and the mace looks less-oddly-proportioned than the sword and shield. I think the one trans-blue piece on the mace sticks out though and ruins an otherwise decent color palette.
I'm not sure how I only got one picture of Cragger, so I do apologize. It's a shame because he has a really unique head, as well as some olive green limbs. One of the standouts as far as unique designs go in this wave.
Worriz is pretty much a clone of Laval and suffers from the weird hand problem. I do like the inclusion of some nice red armor pieces though, and overall he looks pretty cool.
Purple! Razar is pretty similar to Eris, even reusing the same axe pieces. The red of the weapons clashes a bit in my opinion, but otherwise this is a pretty solid set. Did I mention purple?
Chima System Sets
All of the above sets are available already, so there's not a lot new to say about them. I do like the variety of different animals we get and the unique builds the designers use to give the vehicles features from the creatures.
Upcoming Speedorz Sets
Chima is to Ninjago as Speedorz is to Spinner. There's a lot of these lower pricepoint sets that are good ways to get the minifigures, but don't necessarily have a lot in the way of building to do. I wish I had gotten some closeups of some of the figures, as the designs and print jobs are excellent.
70007 Eglor's Twin Bike
Between Ninjago and Chima, they sure do like their motorcycles, don't they? This one looks really cool though, as it goes from a lightcycle-esque racer to a jet. At $24.99, it looks like it might provide some good value.
70008 Gorzan's Gorilla Striker
This is a set that really caught my eye. At $49.99, it's a bit of an investment, but just look at that mech. I love the yellow missile launcher with the clip of bananas - great touch! The whole thing is really rather comically proportioned, but in a good way that looks fun. And you get some leaves in cool colors and a gorilla with boxing gloves. What's not to like?
70009 Worriz' Combat Lair
This is definitely a large set and at $69.99 it ought to be. I wasn't super-impressed with the design though. I do like that the front paws separate to become little trikes, and the wolf's head looks cool. The rest just seems a little blah though.
70010 The Lion CHI Temple
The Lion Temple comes in at an impressive $119.99, making it one of the most expensive sets this year. This thing is huge and has a lot of different features and details. My personal favorite is the fountain and waterfall that comes down the two sides and forms into two little puddles. There's also three cool little vehicles to add to the value.
I hope you've enjoyed this batch of Toy Fair coverage - remember you can vote for what themes you'd like to see next. There are still many more pictures to go through, so keep checking back on BZPower for more from the show!
